The blessing of the Lord makes rich

Often in life we hope for things we have not yet acquired, we pray for what we do not have, we wish for our hearts desired to be fulfilled and we spend time pondering what life could be like once we have these things. God loves us more than words can explain and he wants us to have beautiful things in life, to have meaningful and rich experiences in life, however when an opportunity knocks at our door we usually jump in excitement and run with it, without actually discerning if it is really a blessing from God. Proverbs 10:22 says “the blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with it’’ this means that blessings from God are good for you, for your health, your mental and emotional state, when God blesses you with something it will bring richness such as peace, love, joy and it will be in alignment with your purpose, your destiny and your vision.

It is important to discern and pray about everything that enters your life, I for one have been very poor in this, I used to jump for joy when new friendships, relationships or job opportunities present themselves to me and I would not take time to actually assess the character of the person, to assess if the place I’m in is for me, or if it really aligns with my purpose. I’ve worked a job that payed the bills but suffocated me every minute of the day, yes at first it did seem like a blessing, every family celebrates job opportunities and it is always seen as a good thing when we pray for jobs and we actually get jobs but what I for one did not pray for was a beautiful and peaceful work environment. It is important to see when things are going south and to pray for strength to let go. The job I got had a very toxic work environment, filled with racism, hatred, power struggles, sexual harassment, and so much more, although I was happy and grateful that I could pay for my student debt and get things done with my salary but it wasn’t until months later that I realised that I’m actually dying inside. I’ve had similar experiences with partners and friends, where I would be happy to be someone’s friend or partner and not pay attention to that person’s character until it’s too late.

I want to encourage you today to ask for God’s blessing in all that you do, ask God to make rich what you already have, ask God to bless you with what you need and during those seasons keep your eyes open, pray and ask God to confirm if whatever is entering your life is really from him, if that business partnership is really from him, ask him to show you that potential partners true colours, ask God if that person is really for you are they really meant to be your spouse? Are they really meant to be your friend? Should you be revealing to them your personal life as much as you are? Are they helping you grow your character or depleting it? Is it just gossip or do they share meaningful, enlightening and encouraging things? Remember, the enemy is always hovering around trying to kill steal and destroy, this could be by distracting you and sending the wrong people to your life, and at first they seem great but it is important to really observe people, listen to the things they talk about mostly, look what they do, look at how they treat other people, identify their interests and focus in life and if this is not in alignment to what you want in life pray and ask for Gods’ protection and guidance. We must really be vigilant in prayer so that we do not go off track and open the door to the wrong people and invite chaos into our lives.

Sometimes it is necessary to experience such things in order to learn but if you can learn from other peoples’ mistakes, do that, take your time to analyse someone’s character, spend time alone ask yourself if this job is really the place you want to be in, does it make you excited to go to work every day or do you feel drained  and depressed, when I realised I was falling into depression because of the work I was doing I asked a friend of mine to join me in prayer because I could feel that I’m losing it, and God did show up for me I got another opportunity, and it was what I was good at and passionate about but the pay was four times less than what I was getting and honestly I was fine with that I just wanted to do what makes me feel happy and alive so I took that opportunity and I ran with it. While I was working there I was happy and I really excelled at my job, I was excited to work and that’s not to say there were no challenges, there were a lot of challenges of course but I was in my zone I was doing what I loved and the challenges were bearable, I could work my way around them, the work environment wasn’t toxic and depressing.

So beloved, I encourage you today to pray about all things even things that seem like blessings , don’t simply run with things just because of your feelings or how good something looks like on the exterior, be careful at all times pray for wisdom and give yourself time to discern, ask God if this is really it, be like Gideon if you have to ask for a sign and another and another (Judges 6:33-40) just to be sure if what is trying to enter your life is really for you, trust God he will answer you and reveal the truth of every situation, he has done this for me many many times and sometimes it hurts because I would really want something and he would show me over and over that no its not for me, once God answers you and tells you no, I pray you have the courage and strength to let go, the courage to accept Gods truth and remove yourself from that situation, and If you do not have that strength and courage pray for it “Don’t worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart” (Philippians 4:6). Trust God in all you do, if God is trying to teach you something by exposing you to a negative situation, trust him you and be open to learning, learn about that situation, learn about yourself in that situation and let God be God he will never forsake you, all things work together for the good of those who love the Lord (Romans 8:28), all that you are learning is for your own good in the long run. Stay blessed, God Loves you!
